  • Axial & Appendicular Skeleton: Understanding the Two Main Divisions
The two main divisions of the skeleton are the axial and the appendicular skeleton.

    * Axial skeleton: This includes the bones that form the central axis of the body. This includes the skull, vertebral column, and rib cage.

    * Appendicular skeleton: This includes the bones of the limbs (arms and legs) and the girdles (shoulder and pelvic) that attach them to the axial skeleton.
