The largest nuclear plant meltdown, in terms of the amount of radioactive material released, happened at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Pripyat, Ukraine in 1986.
It's important to note that the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in Japan in 2011 was also a severe meltdown, but it released significantly less radioactive material than Chernobyl.
