1. Limestone: This sedimentary rock is composed primarily of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). Carbonic acid reacts with calcium carbonate to form calcium bicarbonate (Ca(HCO3)2), which is soluble in water. This process dissolves the limestone, leading to the formation of caves, sinkholes, and other karst features.
2. Marble: Marble is a metamorphic rock that is also primarily composed of calcium carbonate. It is therefore susceptible to weathering by carbonic acid in the same way as limestone.
While other rocks can be affected by carbonic acid to some extent, limestone and marble are particularly vulnerable due to their high calcium carbonate content.
