Basaltic lava is known for being:
* Fluid and fast-flowing: This results in the characteristic broad, gently sloping shield volcanoes like Mauna Kea and Mount Fuji.
* Low in silica content: This makes it less viscous than other types of lava.
* Relatively hot: It typically erupts at temperatures between 1000°C and 1200°C (1832°F to 2192°F).
Although Mt. Fuji is known for its beautiful conical shape, it's actually a stratovolcano built up over thousands of years by layers of both lava flows and ash.
