  • Hydrosphere: Earth's Water Systems - Definition & Locations
The hydrosphere is the total amount of water on Earth. It's not a specific location, but rather a global system that encompasses all the water in:

    * Oceans: The largest component, covering about 71% of the Earth's surface.

    * Lakes and rivers: These are freshwater sources, found both on the surface and underground.

    * Ice and glaciers: This includes frozen water in the form of ice caps, glaciers, and permafrost.

    * Groundwater: Water found beneath the Earth's surface, filling spaces in soil and rock.

    * Atmosphere: Water vapor in the air, which contributes to precipitation and other weather phenomena.

Essentially, the hydrosphere is everywhere water exists on Earth, in all its forms and locations.
