  • Igneous Rocks: Formation, Location, and How They Appear Above Ground
Igneous rocks can be found both in the ground and above the ground. Here's why:

    * In the ground: Igneous rocks are formed from the cooling and solidification of magma (molten rock) or lava. This process happens deep within the Earth (magma) or on the surface (lava). So, most igneous rocks are initially formed underground.

    * Above the ground: Over time, geological processes like erosion and uplift can bring igneous rocks from underground to the surface. This is how we see them in mountains, canyons, and other landscapes.

Here's a simple way to think about it:

    * Underground: Think of igneous rocks as "newborn" rocks, freshly formed from magma or lava.

    * Above ground: Think of them as "older" rocks that have been exposed through geological changes.
