  • Magnetic vs. Geographic Poles: Where are They Located?
    You're close, but it's a bit tricky!

    * Magnetic South Pole: Located near the geographic North Pole (in the Arctic).

    * Geographic South Pole: Located near the magnetic North Pole (in Antarctica).

Think of it this way: The magnetic poles are like the opposite ends of a giant bar magnet, and the geographic poles are like the points where the Earth's axis of rotation intersects the surface. The magnetic South Pole is where the Earth's magnetic field lines point inwards, and the magnetic North Pole is where they point outwards. This is why a compass points towards the magnetic North Pole, which is located near the geographic South Pole.

It's a bit counterintuitive, but it's important to remember the magnetic poles are opposite the geographic poles.
