    Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro is made of reinforced concrete, not traditional rock.

    While the statue is large and appears to be carved from a single piece of stone, it was actually constructed in sections and assembled on site. The concrete was reinforced with steel rods to give it the strength needed to withstand the elements and the weight of the statue.
