  • International Date Line: Understanding Time Zones and Global Calendars
The line at 180 degrees longitude is called the International Date Line.

    Here's why it's important:

    * Time Zones: The International Date Line serves as the boundary between time zones. When you cross it going east (towards Asia), you gain a day. When you cross it going west (towards America), you lose a day.

    * Calendar: The line helps synchronize the calendar across the globe. Without it, different parts of the world would be on different days.

Important Note: The International Date Line doesn't follow a straight line exactly. It has some deviations to avoid cutting through landmasses and islands.
