  • Earth's Axis & the North Star: Understanding Polaris and Precession
Earth's axis always points towards Polaris, also known as the North Star.

While it doesn't point *directly* at Polaris, it's very close. The Earth's axis has a slight wobble called precession, meaning it slowly changes its direction over thousands of years. This means that in the distant future, the North Star will not be Polaris.
