  • Foreshocks: Understanding Precursors to Earthquakes
The shaking of the ground that precedes an earthquake is called a foreshock.

Foreshocks are smaller earthquakes that occur in the same area as a larger earthquake, and they can happen minutes, hours, or even days before the main event. While not all earthquakes have foreshocks, their presence can be a warning sign of a larger earthquake to come.
