  • California Volcanoes: Potential Hazards & Notable Sites
There are currently no active volcanoes in California. However, there are several potentially active volcanoes in the state, including:

    * Mount Shasta: Considered the most likely to erupt in the near future.

    * Lassen Peak: The site of the most recent volcanic eruption in the continental US, in 1915.

    * Medicine Lake Volcano: A large shield volcano with several volcanic cones and lava flows.

    * Clear Lake Volcanic Field: A complex area with many volcanic vents and hot springs.

    * Long Valley Caldera: A large, collapsed volcanic crater with ongoing geothermal activity.

    * Salton Buttes: A group of volcanic cones near the Salton Sea.

It's important to note that the term "active" is debated among volcanologists. While none of these volcanoes are currently erupting, they are all considered potentially active due to their history of eruptions and ongoing geothermal activity.
