    If you were at the magnetic North Pole, a compass needle would be completely useless.

    Here's why:

    * Compass needles align with the Earth's magnetic field lines.

    * At the magnetic North Pole, the magnetic field lines are vertical.

    * A compass needle is free to rotate horizontally.

    Since the field lines are vertical, the compass needle would have no preferred direction to point to and would likely spin randomly.
