    Permafrost covers about 24% of the Earth's land surface, which is roughly 1/4 of the total land area.

    It's important to note that this is a large area, but it's not evenly distributed. Permafrost is primarily found in the high northern latitudes, mainly in Russia, Canada, Alaska, and Greenland.
