  • Earthquake Intensity Measurement: PAGASA vs. Modified Mercalli Scale
PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration) does not measure earthquake intensity.

They are primarily responsible for weather forecasting and monitoring.

Earthquake intensity is measured using the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale (MMI). This scale measures the intensity of an earthquake based on the observed effects on people, structures, and the natural environment.

Earthquake magnitude is measured using the Richter Scale. This scale measures the amount of energy released by an earthquake at its epicenter.

While PAGASA does not measure earthquake intensity, they do monitor earthquake activity and issue earthquake warnings and advisories.
