  • Understanding Charcoal: Natural vs. Manufactured
Charcoal isn't really "found" in the same way you'd find a rock or a fossil. It's made! Here's the breakdown:

    * Natural Charcoal: While you might find pieces of charred wood in a forest after a wildfire, this is technically just burned wood. It's not the kind of charcoal you'd use for grilling or drawing.

    * Manufactured Charcoal: This is the charcoal we use commonly. It's made by heating wood (or other materials) in an oxygen-limited environment, which forces it to carbonize and become charcoal.

    Where is charcoal made?

    * Industrial Facilities: Most charcoal is made in large industrial facilities that specialize in this process.

    * Small-Scale Production: Some charcoal is still produced traditionally in smaller, more localized areas using simple methods.

So, while you won't find large deposits of charcoal like you'd find coal, it's produced from readily available wood sources all over the world!
