  • States Defined by Latitude & Longitude: An Exploration
It's a bit tricky to answer how many states are "partially defined" by longitude and latitude because:

    * All states are defined by latitude and longitude. Every point on Earth can be identified by its latitude and longitude coordinates.

    * State boundaries aren't always perfect lines. They often follow natural features (rivers, mountains) or historical boundaries, which might not align perfectly with longitude and latitude lines.

    However, we can say that:

    * Many state boundaries do follow lines of latitude or longitude. For example, the border between California and Oregon is mostly along the 42nd parallel.

    * Some states have significant sections of their boundaries defined by latitude and longitude. For instance, much of the eastern boundary of Colorado runs along the 105th meridian.

Therefore, while it's not possible to say how many states are *partially* defined by longitude and latitude, it's safe to say that the majority of states have at least some portions of their boundaries that align with these lines.
