Here's why:
* Size: They can grow to an average length of 17 feet (5.2 meters) and weigh up to 2,200 pounds (1,000 kilograms). Some individuals have been recorded at over 23 feet (7 meters) long.
* Distribution: Found in saltwater habitats throughout Southeast Asia, Northern Australia, and parts of the Indian Ocean.
* Diet: Apex predators that feed on fish, birds, mammals, and other reptiles.
While other large reptiles exist, such as the American alligator and the green anaconda, the saltwater crocodile consistently surpasses them in size.
