  • Ethiopian Highlands: Exploring Mountains & Plateaus
Ethiopia's mountains and plateaus are collectively known as the Ethiopian Highlands. This vast and elevated region covers much of the country's central and northern areas.

Within the Ethiopian Highlands, there are many individual mountains and plateaus with their own names. Some prominent examples include:

    * Simien Mountains: A UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its dramatic peaks, deep gorges, and unique wildlife.

    * Bale Mountains: Home to the rare Ethiopian wolf and other endemic species.

    * Danakil Depression: A low-lying area in the northeastern part of the country, famous for its volcanic activity and extreme heat.

    * Plateau of Shoa: A large and fertile plateau, where the capital Addis Ababa is located.

It's important to note that the Ethiopian Highlands is not a single plateau or mountain range, but a complex and varied landscape with diverse geographical features.
