  • Makemake: Exploring the Mysteries of a Dwarf Planet
Makemake is neither a rocky planet like Earth nor a gas giant like Jupiter. It is a dwarf planet, a classification that emerged after the International Astronomical Union (IAU) reclassified Pluto in 2006.

    Here's why:

    * Size and Composition: Makemake is much smaller than the planets in our solar system. It's thought to be primarily composed of rock and ice, similar to Pluto.

    * Lack of Atmosphere: Unlike gas giants, Makemake has a very thin atmosphere, which is only present during its closest approach to the Sun.

    * Shape: It's not perfectly spherical, which is another characteristic that distinguishes it from planets.

So, while Makemake shares some features with rocky planets and gas giants, its smaller size, composition, and lack of a substantial atmosphere make it a dwarf planet.
