  • White Lava? Understanding Volcanic Color & Eruptions
There's no such thing as a volcano that erupts with white lava!

Lava is molten rock, and its color is determined by its temperature and composition. While the color can vary from bright red to orange, yellow, or even a dull black, it's never white.

However, there are some instances where you might see something that looks like white lava:

    * Steam and Gas: Some volcanoes release large amounts of steam and gas during eruptions. This can appear white, especially in sunlight, giving the impression of white lava.

    * Reflected Light: White or light-colored rock surrounding a volcano can reflect light, making the lava appear whiter than it actually is.

    * Volcanic Ash: Volcanic ash can be light-colored and sometimes appears white when it's carried by the wind.

So, while there's no volcano with truly white lava, the combination of steam, ash, and reflected light can create the illusion of white lava.
