  • Lithosphere Composition: Igneous and Metamorphic Rocks Explained
The lithosphere is made up of two types of rocks:

    * Igneous rocks: These are formed from the cooling and solidification of magma or lava. Examples include granite, basalt, and obsidian.

    * Metamorphic rocks: These are formed when existing rocks (igneous, sedimentary, or other metamorphic rocks) are transformed by heat, pressure, or chemical reactions. Examples include marble, slate, and gneiss.

While sedimentary rocks are a significant part of the Earth's crust, they are not considered a primary component of the lithosphere.
