  • Understanding Sedimentary Rocks: Formation and Land Deposition
The layer of rock formed from sediments deposited on land is called sedimentary rock.

    Here's why:

    * Sedimentary rocks are formed by the accumulation and cementation of sediments, which are small particles of rock, minerals, and organic matter.

    * Land is a primary source of these sediments, weathered and eroded from mountains, hills, and other landforms.

    * Deposition occurs when these sediments are carried by water, wind, or ice and settle in a new location, often in a low-lying area like a lake or riverbed.

While some sedimentary rocks can form in marine environments, the ones specifically formed from land-based sediments are often classified as terrestrial sedimentary rocks.
