  • Siphons in Bivalves: How They Filter Water & Obtain Nutrients
    Bivalves take in seawater through hollow tubes called siphons.

    There are two siphons:

    * Incurrent siphon: This siphon draws water into the mantle cavity, bringing in food and oxygen.

    * Excurrent siphon: This siphon expels water, along with waste products and sometimes gametes.
