Mount Sinabung is located on the convergent plate boundary between the Eurasian Plate and the Indo-Australian Plate.
Specifically, it sits on the subduction zone where the Indo-Australian Plate is being forced underneath the Eurasian Plate. This subduction process is what causes the volcanic activity at Mount Sinabung and many other volcanoes in the region.
