  • Mount Pelée: Active Volcano Status & Eruption History
Mount Pelée is active, but it is not currently erupting.

    It's important to note that:

    * Active volcanoes are those that have erupted in the last 10,000 years and are likely to erupt again.

    * Extinct volcanoes are those that have not erupted in the last 10,000 years and are not expected to erupt again.

Mount Pelée last erupted in 1902, resulting in a devastating eruption that destroyed the city of Saint-Pierre and killed thousands of people. While it has been relatively quiet since then, its history of eruptions makes it clear that it is still an active volcano.
