  • Distance to Ursa Major: Understanding the Big Dipper's Location
Ursa Major, also known as the Big Dipper, is an asterism in the northern sky. It is not a well-defined constellation, but rather an arbitrary grouping of stars that have been traditionally used for navigation and storytelling. Therefore, it does not have a specific distance from Earth. The individual stars that make up Ursa Major are at different distances from Earth. For example, the brightest star in Ursa Major, Alkaid, is about 101 light years from Earth, while the faintest star, Talitha Borealis, is about 480 light years away.
