The lithosphere is composed both the crust and rigid mantle. The lithosphere is the rigid, outermost layer of Earth, which includes the crust and the rigid part of the upper mantle. It is divided into several tectonic plates, which move around on the asthenosphere, the layer of the mantle below the lithosphere.
