  • Mineral Locations: Where to Find Minerals - Types & Geological Settings
Minerals can be found in a variety of geological settings, including:

    - Igneous rocks: Minerals form as molten rock cools and solidifies. These minerals are often found in plutonic rocks (formed deep in the Earth) or volcanic rocks (formed from lava flows or ash deposits).

    - Sedimentary rocks: Minerals can form through chemical precipitation out of water, or by the accumulation and deposition of minerals brought by water or wind erosion. These minerals are found in sedimentary rocks, such as sandstone, limestone, and shale.

    - Metamorphic rocks: Minerals can be formed or recrystallized when existing rocks are subjected to high temperatures and pressures within the Earth's crust. These minerals are found in metamorphic rocks, such as marble, quartzite, and slate.

    - Mineral veins: Minerals can be concentrated in veins, which form when minerals are deposited out of hot, mineral-rich water. These veins can cut across other types of rocks and are often mined for their valuable mineral content.

    - Placer deposits: Minerals that are resistant to weathering and erosion can accumulate in placer deposits. These deposits are found in stream beds, river gravels, and other areas where sediments are deposited.
