  • Earth's Layers: A Comprehensive Guide to the Crust, Mantle & Core
The six layers of the Earth, starting from the outermost layer and moving towards the center, are:

    1. Crust: The crust is the outermost layer of the Earth and is composed of solid rock. The crust is divided into two types: continental crust and oceanic crust. Continental crust is thicker and less dense than oceanic crust.

    2. Mantle: The mantle is the layer of the Earth beneath the crust and is composed of hot, semi-solid rock. The mantle is divided into two layers: the upper mantle and the lower mantle. The upper mantle is more rigid and the lower mantle is more fluid.

    3. Outer Core: The outer core is the layer of the Earth beneath the mantle and is composed of molten iron and nickel. The outer core is very hot and is in a liquid state.

    4. Inner Core: The inner core is the innermost layer of the Earth and is composed of solid iron and nickel. The inner core is extremely hot and is under immense pressure.

    5. Lithosphere: The lithosphere is a solid, rigid layer that includes the crust and the uppermost part of the mantle. The lithosphere is divided into tectonic plates, which move around the Earth's surface.

    6. Asthenosphere: The asthenosphere is the layer of the Earth beneath the lithosphere and is composed of hot, semi-solid rock. The asthenosphere is the zone of weakness that allows the tectonic plates to move.
