    The most abundant element in the Earth's crust is oxygen, comprising almost half of the total mass. In the atmosphere, nitrogen is the most abundant element, making up roughly 78% of the air we breathe. As for the oceans, hydrogen and oxygen are the most abundant elements, combined in the form of water (H2O) which covers over 70% of the Earth's surface.
