* The crust is the outermost layer of the Earth and is made up of solid rock.
* It is the thinnest of the three layers, varying in thickness from 5 kilometers (3 miles) under the oceans to 70 kilometers (43 miles) under the continents. The crust is composed of several types of rocks, including igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks.
2. Mantle
* The mantle is the thickest layer of the Earth, making up most of its volume. It is located between the crust and the core, stretching to a depth of about 2,900 kilometers (1,800 miles).
* The mantle is made up of hot, solid rock that is constantly in motion, convection currents in the mantle are responsable for the movement of Earth's tectonic plates. The mantle is also the source of magma, which rises to the surface and erupts to form volcanoes.
3. Core
* The core is the innermost layer of the Earth and is made up of mostly of iron and nickel. It is extremely hot and dense, with temperatures around 5,700 degrees Celsius(10,232 degrees Fahrenheit) in the inner core and about 4,400 degrees Celsius (7,952 degrees Fahrenheit) in the outer core.
* The inner core is solid, while the outer core is liquide. The movement of liquid iron in the outer core generates the Earths magnetic field, which protects the planet from harmful solar radiation .
