    The presence of sediment is the best evidence of erosion.

    Sediment is soil, sand, and other materials that have been picked up and deposited by wind, water, or ice. When sediment is found in an area, it means that there has been some type of erosion. For example, if you find sediment in a river, it means that the river has eroded the land and carried the sediment away.
