  • Understanding Soil Horizons: What is the C Horizon?
In soils with distinct soil horizons, the bottom zone is called the C horizon. This horizon is also known as the subsoil or parent material. It is composed of weathered rock, minerals, and organic matter. The C horizon is usually denser and more compact than the other soil horizons, and it is often harder to dig through.
