  • Vaalbara & Ur: The Earth's First Continent - History & Formation
The first continent on planet Earth is generally referred to as Vaalbara or Ur. It is believed to have formed around 3.6 billion years ago and was located in what is now southern Africa. Vaalbara is thought to have been a supercontinent, meaning it was made up of most of the Earth's landmass. Over time, Vaalbara broke up into smaller continents through plate tectonics, eventually leading to the formation of the seven continents we have today.
