  • Bedrock: Understanding the Solid Foundation Beneath Our Feet
The layer underground where there are no empty spaces for water or air to fill in is called bedrock. Bedrock is the solid, consolidated layer of rock that lies beneath the soil and any loose material. It is composed of solid rock, such as granite, limestone, or sandstone, and is impermeable to water and air. Bedrock is usually found at a depth of several meters below the surface, but it can be shallower in some areas and deeper in others.
