  • Volcanic Tubes: Depth and Earth's Core - A Geological Explanation
Volcanic tubes do not extend past the crust of the Earth and therefore do not reach the mantle or the core. Volcanic tubes are underground tunnels or channels formed by flowing lava from volcanic eruptions on the surface of the Earth. They occur within the Earth's crust, which generally extends to depths of up to 50 kilometers (31 miles).

The Earth's layers consist of the crust, mantle, and core. The crust is the outermost layer, the mantle is located beneath the crust, and the core is at the center of the Earth. Volcanic tubes are confined to the crust and do not penetrate deeper into the mantle or core.
