  • Upper Mantle Composition: What It's Really Made Of
    The statement that much of the upper mantle is made granite is incorrect. The upper mantle primarily consists of hot, solid rocks rich in magnesium and iron, such as peridotite, with traces of other elements. Granite, composed mainly of feldspar, quartz, and mica, is predominantly found in the continental crust, which lies above the mantle.
