  • Understanding Sand Dunes: Types, Formation, and Characteristics
    1. Barchan Dunes

    - Isolated, crescent-shaped dunes.

    - Found in areas with relatively strong winds and limited sand supply.

    - They have steep slip faces on their leeward sides and gentle slopes on their stoss sides.

    2. Transverse Dunes

    - Larger and more linear dunes.

    - Found in areas with strong winds and a plentiful supply of sand.

    - Align with prevailing winds.

    3. Parabolic Dunes

    - U-shaped dunes with arms that point downwind.

    - Form when vegetation partially stabilizes the dunes, allowing sand to accumulate in the central part of the dune.

    4. Star Dunes

    - Complex dunes with multiple peaks.

    - Found in areas with strong winds and a plentiful supply of sand.
