There are about 92 elements that occur naturally in the Earth's crust. Of these, 83 are found as elements, and the remaining nine (technetium, promethium, polonium, astatine, francium, radium, actinium, thorium, and protactinium) occur only in trace amounts as decay products of heavier elements.
