    Volcanic eruptions

Volcanic eruptions occur when magma rises to the Earth's surface and is discharged through a vent in the crust. Magma is molten rock that comes from the mantle, the layer of the Earth beneath the crust.

    * If a volcanic eruption is violent or creates high temperatures enough, it can eject into space fragments from rock, ash, magma or other molten substances that were on the volcano.
