  • Understanding Erosion: What Isn't Erosion and Why It Matters
A non-example of erosion can be the deposition of sediment. Deposition is the opposite of erosion, where sediments are laid down or deposited in a new location, forming new landmasses or layers of soil. For example, when a river slows down and reaches a flatter area, it may start depositing its sediments, forming a new floodplain or delta. In contrast, erosion occurs when the land's surface is worn away due to the action of wind, water, ice, or other geological processes.
