  • Understanding the Earth's Mantle: Composition and Structure
Mantle is a layer or strata underlying the crust or surface of the Earth. It is called as the rock of the mantle because it is composed of solidified molten rock. Mantle extends from the Mohorovicic discontinuity, which is the boundary between the crust and mantle, to the core-mantle boundary. The majority of the Earth's mass is within the mantle making it the most voluminous layer.
