  • Understanding Mountain Formation: Fold, Thrust & Volcanic Mountains
Mountains formed due to plate collision are:

    - Fold Mountains: These mountains are formed when two tectonic plates collide head-on, causing the Earth's crust to buckle and fold. Examples include the Himalayas, the Alps, and the Appalachians.

    - Thrust Mountains: These mountains occur when one plate overrides the other, pushing the rocks of the overriding plate upward and creating a steep slope. The Rocky Mountains in North America are an example of thrust mountains.

    - Volcanic Mountains: When plates collide and one plate subducts beneath the other, it can cause magma to rise to the surface and form volcanoes. Over time, these volcanoes can build up to form mountains. Examples include Mount Fuji in Japan, the Cascade Range in North America, and the Andes Mountains in South America.
