  • Understanding Earthquake Zones and Fault Lines
An earthquake zone is likely to be along a fault line. A fault line is a fracture in the Earth's crust where rocks have broken and moved. Earthquakes occur when rocks on either side of a fault line suddenly slip past each other. The energy released by this movement causes the ground to shake.
