  • Volcanology & the Geosphere: What Do Volcanologists Study?
    The geosphere.

Volcanology is the study of volcanoes, their structure, their products, and their activity. Volcanoes are geological features that form when magma, or molten rock, rises to the surface of the Earth and erupts. The geosphere is the solid, rocky layer of the Earth, which includes the Earth's crust and mantle. Volcanology is therefore a branch of geology, and volcanologists most directly study the geosphere.
