  • Boiling Point & Altitude: Does Water Boil Faster Higher Up?
No, water actually boils faster at higher altitudes, such as on top of a mountain, compared to sea level.

Boiling occurs when the vapor pressure of a liquid equals the pressure surrounding it. At higher altitudes, the atmospheric pressure is lower, which means there is less pressure acting on the surface of the water. As a result, the water molecules require less energy to reach their vapor pressure and escape as steam. This causes water to boil at a lower temperature and therefore boils faster at higher altitudes.
