Rosetta Stone: What It Tells Us About Ancient Egypt – Fact vs. Fiction
The Rosetta Stone does not contain evidence of an ancient Egyptian rebellion. The stone is a stele inscribed with three versions of a decree issued in Memphis, Egypt in 196 BC during the reign of Ptolemy V Epiphanes. The top text is in Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, the middle text is in Demotic script, and the bottom text is in Ancient Greek. The decree proclaims the cult of Ptolemy I Soter and Ptolemy V Epiphanes, and confirms the privileges of the Egyptian priesthood.
