    Volcano Eruption Demo

    Materials:

    - baking soda

    - vinegar

    - food coloring

    - dish soap

    - water

    - empty plastic bottle

    - funnel

    - paper towel

    - tray

    Instructions:

    1. Add 1/2 cup of baking soda to the bottom of the plastic bottle.

    2. Add 2 teaspoons of food coloring to the baking soda.

    3. Add 1 teaspoon of dish soap to the baking soda mixture.

    4. Add 1/4 cup of water to the baking soda mixture.

    5. Stir the mixture until it is well combined.

    6. Place the funnel in the top of the bottle.

    7. Slowly add 1/2 cup of vinegar to the bottle.

    8. The volcano will erupt, spewing lava (baking soda and vinegar mixture) out of the top of the bottle.

    Explanation:

When baking soda and vinegar are mixed, they react to form carbon dioxide gas. This gas builds up inside the bottle, creating pressure. When the pressure becomes too great, the gas is released, causing the volcano to erupt.

    Lava Flow Demo

    Materials:

    - baking soda

    - vinegar

    - food coloring

    - dish soap

    - water

    - 9x13 inch baking pan

    - paper towel

    Instructions:

    1. Spread a layer of baking soda on the bottom of the baking pan.

    2. Add a few drops of food coloring to the baking soda.

    3. Add a squirt of dish soap to the baking soda.

    4. Add a little bit of water to the baking soda mixture.

    5. Stir the mixture until it is well combined.

    6. Place the pan in the sink.

    7. Slowly add vinegar to the pan.

    8. The lava will flow out of the pan, creating a lava flow.

    Explanation:

When baking soda and vinegar are mixed, they react to form carbon dioxide gas. This gas bubbles up through the baking soda mixture, causing it to flow like lava.

    Safety:

These demos are safe for young students, but adult supervision is recommended. Students should wear goggles to protect their eyes.
