  • Coral Reefs & Climate Change: Can They Move?
Coral reefs cannot physically relocate anywhere. They are marine habitats consisting of colonies of tiny animals called coral polyps that live in mutualistic symbiosis with microscopic single-celled algae known as zooxanthellae. These delicate ecosystems flourish in warm, shallow waters, and while some corals can adapt and survive in changing environmental conditions, they are not capable of moving to different locations.
